Oxford Dictionary’s word of the year for 2012 isn’t influencer or Instagram. It isn’t even Honey Boo Boo. It’s Gif.
If you’re unfamiliar, ‘gif’ is a noun that refers to ‘a lossless format for compressing image files.’ The more common definition, however, is ‘barely moving image that (typically) makes me laugh.’
